Social Media App ‘Clubhouse’ To Roll Out On Android Worldwide

Clubhouse, the drop-in audio social media app, has announced that it is all set to roll-out its Android app this week. Previously, Clubhouse was only available on iOS.

What is Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is a new type of social media network which is based on voice and audio. People around the world can come together on Clubhouse to talk, listen and learn from each other in real-time. The app describes itself as ‘Drop-in audio chat‘.

The conversation rooms on the app are just like a conference call but with only some people on the call talking and the remaining listening in. It can also be described as a live-streamed podcast covering different topics.

Can anyone join Clubhouse?

Currently, you can sign up to Clubhouse through invitation only. Anyone can get an invite by joining the app’s waitlist or by asking an existing user for an invite since all users get a limited number of invites when they initially join the app.

What is the big deal about Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is like an exclusive members only club that was only available on iOS devices for its first year and, although the app has kept access for new members limited, it has still managed to grow to an estimated 10 million users. The app was recently valued at $4 billion after a new funding round.

Clubhouse has been around since March 2020, however, it came to prominence when Elon Musk hosted an audio chat on the platform in early 2021. Elon Musk’s chat on the platform maxed out the app’s conversation room limits and was livestreamed on YouTube.

The app has also been a ‘Creator First’ platform and announced an accelerator program for creators in March.

After its initial success on iOS, the company has now announced that it will be rolling out its app to Android users across the world. It remains to be seen whether the app can continue to grow its audience or will other established social media giants look to get a piece of the ‘audio-only’ social network market.

Android users can pre-register for the app on the play store which means that, once the application has been released on Friday, it will automatically be downloaded to the user’s devices if they are pre-registered.
